Polk County

It is no secret that the St. Croix Valley is growing, and changing. Nonprofit agencies are being asked to do more each year. As leaders in the nonprofit community, the local United Ways serving the St. Croix Valley are committed to facing the challenges that lie ahead. Board members met for over a year and came to the conclusion that communities in Minnesota and Wisconsin would be best served by transferring administration of Polk County from Stillwater-based United Way of Washington County-East to Hudson-based United Way St. Croix Valley. Members of the United Way of Polk County advisory board have joined the United Way St. Croix Valley board and will continue to provide leadership for United Way’s operations in Polk County.

A key goal of the realignment is to increase community support for programs and services in Polk County and create new efficiencies in delivering these services. United Way St. Croix Valley is committed to continuing our policy of making grants to agencies that help specific local communities; to the larger organizations that serve the entire region; and for United Way initiatives such as Success By 6tm. All of us at United Way St. Croix Valley are looking forward to supporting the nonprofit agencies working to make Polk County a better place for all.

Communities have been profoundly affected by the current economic conditions. Too many of our neighbors simply can’t tighten their belts any further. Hard working people have lost jobs and are reaching out for help for the first time in their lives. Our agency partners are experiencing a dramatic increase in demand for programs and services at a time when their financial resources are dwindling. It is time to respond – however each of us can and as much as we can.
