Food Resource Center - 2008

Since February of 2008, the United Way St. Croix Valley Food Resource Center has distributed more than 273,000 pounds of food to area pantries, shelters and meal programs.

CESA #11 New Richmond Head Start’s Let’s Find Out and Grandma Readers Literacy Programs

“With the United Way funding, New Richmond Head Start was able to promote literacy through the above listed programming: Let’s Find Out newsletter and Grandma Readers. 80 children were served. Each of the children received 10 newsletters to take home and nine books.”

Family Resource Center St. Croix Valley's Play and Learn Group“Desired Outcome – Parents and caregivers will have knowledge and training and use those skills to provide children with safe, stable and supportive environments.

Discipline Practices: Parents who are participating in a home visiting program are able to provide consistent limits and boundaries, teach desirable behavior and use age appropriate discipline.

  • 54% of parents receiving less than 12 visits scored within the target range.
  • 73% of parents receiving 12 or more visits scored within the target range.
  • 100% of parents receiving 24 or more visits scored within the target range.

Nurturing Behavior: Parents who are participating in a home visiting program show evidence of being bonded with their children, display loving reciprocal responses, praise and positive regulation of their child.

  • 58% of parents receiving less than 12 visits scored within the target range.
  • 71% of parents receiving 12 or more visits scored within the target range.
  • 100% of parents receiving 24 or more visits scored within the target range.

Safety: Parents who are participating in a home visiting program protect their children by keeping their home safe, protecting their children, use a car seat appropriately and teach safety rules.

  • 73% of parents receiving less than 12 visits scored within the target range.
  • 85% of parents receiving 12 or more visits scored within the target range.
  • 100% of parents receiving 24 or more visits scored within the target range.

“The United Way funding in 2008 offered the opportunity for additional nursing visits/contacts to clients after the initial Healthy Start/BadgerCare Plus funding had expired for them (at 60 days postpartum).”

St. Croix County Public Health’s Childbirth Education Classes

“Without United Way support for our program there would be 10 to 14 couples who would not attend the classes and possibly have a poor birth outcome.”
